Yellow fever

Yellow fever vaccination is not required.

Polio

The International Polio Vaccination Certificate is mandatory in accordance with the International Health Regulations for all travellers from polio-exporting countries.

Hepatitis A and B

Hepatitis A is generally transmitted through contaminated food and water, or through close physical contact with an infected person, while Hepatitis B is transmitted through exposure to infected body fluids and blood.

Rabies

Infection typically occurs through contact with the saliva of an infected animal, usually by bites, scratches or licks near open wounds or membranes (mouth, nose, eyes). The most common vectors are dogs and bats, but cases of infection in other domestic animals have also been reported.

Tetanus

Caused by toxins released by the bacterium Clostridium tetani, the risk of contracting tetanus is endemic throughout the country.

MERS

Cases of MERS have been reported within the country. Since there is no vaccine, careful preventive behavioural measures are recommended. It is especially wise to avoid contact with camels or consuming raw camel milk or meat products.

Insect bites and stings

Diseases such as Chikungunya, Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever, Rift Valley Fever are found in West Asia. Transmitted by insect bites and with no vaccine, it is important to implement careful, preventive behavioural measures.

Experts advise that you protect yourself and other travellers by making sure you are up-to-date with all of the recommended vaccinations. This will allow you to travel safely, while minimising the risk of exposure to infection.

 Territory and climate

A Middle Eastern state, it occupies a peninsula jutting longitudinally into the Persian Gulf, which laps it on three sides. It borders Saudi Arabia to the south.

The terrain is desert, dominated inland by a karst plateau that descends to the small plains that dot the coast. The climate is desert, with temperatures that can exceed 50°C in summer and drop below 10°C in winter.
