Hepatitis A is usually transmitted by contaminated food and water, or close physical contact with an infected person, whereas Hepatitis B is transmitted by exposure to infected body fluids and blood.
Infection typically occurs through contact with the saliva of an infected animal, usually caused by bites, scratches or licks near open wounds or mucous membranes (e.g. mouth, nose, eyes). The most common vectors are dogs and bats, but cases of infection in other domestic animals have also been reported.

Mauritius is an island country, located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. The region is composed of the Mauritius, Agalega, Rodrigues and the Cargados Carajos islets.
The archipelago, which also contains Reunion Island, is the emerged part of an underwater volcanic ridge. This characteristic is one of the most prominent features of the islands, which are scattered with the eroded remains of long-dormant volcanoes. The main island, Mauritius, is characterized by its piton, modest elevations (around 800 meters above sea level) that encircle the vast inland highlands. The typical coastlines are elevated and delimited by coral reefs.
The climate is humid tropical, with rainfall mostly in the summer period between December and March, when humidity is high and temperatures can reach 20 to 34 degrees. June to August is the drier winter season, with temperatures between 16 and 27 degrees.
